The construction of the new, sustainable Town Hall of Rheden focused on creating an inviting, natural environment where employees and visitors feel welcome. Ten Brinke played a key role in this vision, enriching the building with an impressive green design that seamlessly integrates with the architecture and the municipalities commitment to sustainability.
A Sustainable and Inspiring Workspace
The municipality of Rheden had a clear goal: the new town hall should not only be sustainable but also contribute to the well-being of its users. A modern, green aesthetic was essential, incorporating planting that reflects the connection between the Veluwezoom and the urban functionality of the building. Ten Brinke was tasked with bringing this green experience to life, ensuring it aligned with the municipalities identity.
Green as a Unifying Element
To meet this challenge, Ten Brinke designed a biophilic concept that enhances the open, modern architecture. A combination of biophilic design, urban jungle influences, and custom green solutions formed the foundation of this project.
Key highlights include:
- A striking tree as a centrepiece
Upon entering, visitors are immediately drawn to the 5.5-meter-high Bulnesia Arborea tree, standing proudly on the central tribune. This impressive tree creates a warm, welcoming atmosphere and serves as the heart of the building, symbolizing connection and growth. - Long planters with cascading greenery
Over the edges of the first floor and the central hall, long planters overflow with hanging plants, adding a playful and organic touch that perfectly complements the sustainable architecture. - Custom planters integrated into archive cabinets
In the workspaces, tailor-made planters are seamlessly built into archive cabinets, enhancing the fresh and functional design while adding an elegant green element. - Soyle planters by Grønn
Throughout the building, sleek and modern Soyle planters by Grønn emphasize the biophilic aesthetic, ensuring a cohesive and visually appealing interior.
A Space Where Nature and Architecture Unite
The Rheden Town Hall is now a place where architecture and nature harmonize. From the majestic tree on the tribune to the cascading greenery and seamlessly integrated plant features, the interior breathes vitality and sustainability. Carefully selected plants contribute to a healthy indoor climate, boosting well-being and productivity for all who work and visit the space.
With its warm wooden accents and thoughtfully placed greenery, the town hall exudes tranquillity, inspiration, and connection—a testament to the power of biophilic design.
