Moss walls are made with different types of moss: flat moss (pad moss), bun moss, and reindeer moss (Norwegian or Icelandic moss). Each type has a unique appearance; for example, reindeer moss has more branching than the smooth flat moss or fine bun moss. It’s often possible to combine different types of moss for varied textures.
Generally, a moss wall can last between 7 and 10 years. In some cases, with optimal care and conditions, it can last up to 15 years.
To prolong a moss wall’s lifespan, it’s essential to maintain proper humidity, temperature, and light conditions. Ideal humidity levels range between 40 and 60 percent, and temperatures between 16 and 24 degrees Celsius. Indirect light is best, as too much direct sunlight can cause damage.
